Sunny's Story... Update: 06-05-2010 Sunny is a 7-8 year old female picked up by the Ashtabula APL as a stray. When she came to OBR she had a large mass hanging from her belly and was in very poor shape. Things did not look hopeful for her at first glance. She was taken to the vet and biopsies were taken of two masses and an enlarged lymph node. Happily all results came back clear. She has recovered very well and is gaining some much needed weight now and her hair is finally starting to come back in. Sunny is up to date on all vaccines, Heartgard ,Frontline, is housebroken, and crate trained. She get's along fine with the other dogs in our home and the outside cat but would do fine as an only dog. We have left her uncrated in our home with no incidents. Sunny loves human companionship. Can you find it in your heart to give this poor neglected girl another chance? For questions about Sunny please contact Cathy by email at cathy.rice1@att.net or at 614-794-9440. With the help of transport volunteers Carol Tkacz and
Carol Shreiner we were able to pick up this poor little girl from
the Ashtabula, Ohio APL. She is thought to be about 7-8 years old and
as you can see is in very poor condition. After being taken to our vet
in Columbus she weighed in at 35lbs and it is thought that the massive
tumor on her belly may be a cyst that has ulcerated. The mass appears
attached only by skin so it swings back and forth as she walks as if
she were carrying a very large grapefruit. I can't imagine how she continues
to keep going with carrying that around. She also has a walnut sized
mass on her rear leg. As if this were not enough both ears are infected,
her eyes are cloudy and she has stage IV dental disease. Even with all
of this she is the sweetest girl and constantly wags her tail and will
even try to jump up on your leg for head rubs. Because of her sweet
disposition I have named her Sunny. The vet took chest xrays
which show that both lungs are clear and no other problems are apparent.
We are still awaiting results of a bloodwork and if that is good she
is scheduled for surgery on Monday to remove and biopsy both tumors and
get a dental . Afterward she will also be needing a pressure
check of the eyes to rule out glaucoma and vaccines.
As you can imagine Sunny's vet costs are going
to be very high. So far the vet estimate for her surgery and care is
up to $700.00. If you can spare anything to help with the cost of her
surgery and after care it would be greatly appreciated. Donations can
be sent via Paypal on OBR's website or via snail mail to Cathy Rice,
7060 Worthington Rd., Westerville, Ohio, 43082. Without funds OBR
can not continue to pull dogs such as Sunny. She would have been euthanized
at the shelter. Sunny will also be needing a foster home after
her surgery. She has been in our home all weekend before her surgery
and has had no problems with my Bassets or GSD and we have only heard
her bark once. Can you spare a place in your home for this sweet
girl to recover and wait for her forever home?
