Lenny is a 1-2yr old tri-color male rescued from a high kill shelter in Northern Ohio. When he first came into OBR's care he had severe "cherry eyes". They were red, swollen and continued to dry out causing Lenny to constantly rub them. He has since then had his surgery and although they are still a little red they're healing nicely. (He asked that we not take a picture of his face until they are 100%, but instead show that he loves to play!) Lenny is a very sweet boy who will need a family who's patient while he's learning to retrust people. Lenny loves his doggie friends, but he seems a little nervous around new people. He is very quiet for a basset and will make a whining almost "meowing" sound when he is unsure or afraid..To learn more about Lenny please fill out our adoption application on our web siteUpdate Lenny had to undergo 3 eye operations before his cherry eyes were finally, completely taken care of. Lenny needs a very special home. Lenny has a very high distrust of people. He is not and never will be a social butterfly. He will not run to you and roll over for belly rubs when you come to meet him. It will probably take weeks for him to trust you. Lenny needs a home preferably with one person. Once he trusts you he will be your shadow, but until he does he will remain in the shadows. Lenny gets along well with other dogs of all sizes, but people freak him out. He sleeps snugged up tight against me at night but that took quite awhile and LOTS of patience. You have to let him adjust at his pace. I truly appreciate his devotion because I know how much it cost him to slowly allow me into his life. Someone has done something truly wicked to make this little guy to make him so fearful and mistrustful. If you have a home that has little traffic by outsiders then Lenny could adjust. Again you will get nothing for free from Lenny, he assumes the worst. You will have to win him over with LOTS of patience and love.
