Chloe
is an around 3-4 yrs old tri color female basset/bagle mix,
also know as a "bagel". What a sweetie. Chloe was
found nearly a year ago with her pups, starving to death in
a ditch. She has come a long long way since that time. She
is sweet, crate trained and very good with kids and people.
Chloe is special needs as she is on medication for seizures
and thyroid. The cost is about $20/month.

C.J. is a very
sweet dog who has been bounced around more than a tennis ball
lately. In spite of this, she is adjusting to her foster home
and doing fine with the other dogs in the house. She follows
her foster Mom everywhere. She's very devoted and loving. She
needs a stable environment so she can unpack and relax for
a change. She is approximately 6 years old. She's very sweet
and enjoys being petted, likes rides in the car and loves to
go on walks. She does the happy dance at the sight of the leash
and/or the food bowl!! CJ would be fine in a home with another
dog or as an only dog. She is house trained and has good house
manners. She has a beautiful Basset voice too! Recommend children
over 12. Won't you give this beautiful fluffy girl the forever
home she has been waiting for??
UPDATE 12/18/07:
CJ recently had a mass removed from her right
back foot and the biopsy came back that it is a very aggressive
form of cancer. She will need blood work and x-rays and then
will need to see an oncologist to determine what kind of treatment
(if any) she will need. Please send lots of healing drool CJ's
way.
Click below if you would like to donate for
her vet costs (which will be substantial).

Ransom
and Zoey are 2 yr old tri-color females who came into OBR as
puppies. These little ladies have had their share of ups and
downs and have come out on top. They arrived into OBR's care
in 2005 in the back of a truck with 26 labs and goldens from
a puppy mill bust in Missouri. They were both sick with was
thought to be the dog flu going around that year, however turned
out to be pneumonia and struggled to survive. Both are
now well and the only trace of the hardship they endured is
a cough from time to time when they play to hard. Both girls
have bonded through their hardship and must be adopted together.
When they sleep at night they will lay as close as possible
and at least one part of their body is almost always touching.
They are very friendly with all dogs, big or small and simply
love everyone and everything. Unfortunately, their hearts are
bigger than their brains and they tend to jump, yet are learning
to stay down. It would be best if they went to a home without
small children. They need a fenced yard, because since they
were puppies they've had this luxury and tend to enjoy it.
Both dogs are a joy to have around and will do anything to
make you happy. Ransom and Zoey have been in foster care for
awhile and desperately need to find a forever home. One that
can give them the time and love they need and deserve. Can
you open your hearts and home to a pair of friendly, sweet,
playful, fun little ladies that will do nothing less than warm
your heart with each passing day?

Ginger is a sweet & wiggly 7 year old white & red
female. She has the sweetest personality & couldn’t
be any more happy than when she gets to just ’hang out’ with
her foster brothers & us.
Ginger is a sweet & sassy little ball of
greatness. Every time you walk in the door, you will receive
your own personal song & dance routine. Ginger is a loving
girl, she caged when we leave cause when she gets bored
she clears the counters, just as any good basset would! "Gingi-girl",
as we like to call her, enjoys napping, chasing outdoor critters, & going
for walks. She is very gentle on a leash. She also
possesses a fine Basset Hound Voice. Ginger is utd on shots,

furkids5@verizon.net |

Dolly is a 2-3 year
old tri-color gal. I have had her in foster care since
March. She had 6 puppies 4 days after I got her from
the shelter. My vet feels she has had previous litters, and
she has quite a droopy belly, but it happens to the best of moms! She
is now spayed and ready to just be the queen of her very
own castle. It appears that Dolly has had a rough road
in the past, but she is very sweet and has enjoyed being pampered. She
has a crippled back leg, which x-rays confirm her leg was previously
broken and never treated. Of course, she will probably have arthritis
some day, which happens with most broken bones. Dolly
can run, walk, climb stairs without showing signs of discomfort
to her leg. She has no problem jumping on the couch to take a
nap or sleep for the night. She really enjoys sleeping on the
couch, and I would like her to be permitted to do that in her
new home. Dolly is a well-behaved young lady who I have
never crated, and is very trustworthy to have free roam of the
house for any period of time we are not home. Dolly is
housebroken, but is used to her own potty schedule because we
have a doggy door leading into a fenced yard that she very much
enjoys. Dolly needs a home in a home with
only adults. Whatever happened to her in the past, she
is skittish of children, even teenagers. I want her to feel
relaxed in her forever home, and she just is happiest without
young people. Maybe this is the age group that inflicted
abuse to her leg. She loves females most of all, and
adjusts to men, but can be hesitant at first. She is very
content to lay beside her foster dad's chair and be petted while
he reads the newspaper. Dolly will play with some toys,
enjoys chewing a rawhide or hoof, and is genuinely a pleasant
girl. She is being fostered in Stark County.

Handsome, smart,
active hound seeks loving family for moonlight or daylight walks,
evening cuddling, frequent games of fetch and tug and possibly
a friend or more If you want smart, curious and never ending
loyalty and energy, look no further. Ralphee is your guy. Weighing
in at just over 40lbs and the activity level of a young pup.
Ralphee is crate trained and good in the house. Ralphee likes
to be the center of attention when playing with the other dogs,
but seems to settle in to the pack over time. He is taking obedience
class and doing very well. Ralphee is curious and can get into
trouble, so activities that help relieve his boredom are recommended.
He can be vocal at times (what basset is not). He will need a
strong owner to show him the rules and help mold his behavior.

Okie is approximately
8-9 years of age. He was abandoned with two other bassets and
left in the backyard without any care for several days at a time.
Okie was heart worm positive but has received treatment and is
doing great. He is up to date on vaccines and recently had a
dental. He is a very young senior with still a lot of playfulness
left in him. Okie gets along with other dogs, is curious about
our cats and plays well with others. He is not food aggressive
or destructive in the house. He is doing well with housebreaking
and gets an A+ for his efforts. Okie is okay with being crated.
When we leave the house, Okie is put in one of our guest bedrooms
with one of our dogs with a baby gate in the doorway and he has
not had any accidents or caused any problems. Okie walks very
well on a leash and sits nicely for his food and treats. He loves
to lay next to you and is just happy to have someone pay attention
to him. At first he seemed a little hand shy, but with time he
seems to be getting better. I am sure someone is his past was
not that nice to him, but for all he has been through he is one
big loveable boy who deserves a family of his own.

Wilson is a 3 year
old owner relinquish due to a change in family circumstances.
He is a very laid back, affectionate boy who loves all the attention.
He has not been around other animals or children, so he needs
a home with no other pets and either older or no children. Wilson
also has a very sensitive stomach and skin and requires appropriate
food for his conditions. He loves to go for walks and does well
on a leash. Wilson is housebroken and crate trained, but we do
not use a crate because he is so well behaved. He is also neutered

Clyde is just under
2 years old and is a beautiful, long basset boy. He is housetrained
and crate trained. Clyde would be a wonderful companion for an
adult who would allow some snuggles. He likes to be where ever
you are and has a quiet presence. He whines sometimes but has
not done much barking. Clyde is still quite young and loves to
run and play. He was used for breeding for a short time and as
a result can have an assertive attitude with some male dogs.

Update 3/26/08 Riley is a very
special "little" guy. He was found as a stray and picked
up by the animal shelter where he stayed for as long as they
could keep him. He is between 1 and 2 years old and is up to
date on his shots and has been neutered. He is small for a basset
but he is full of energy and love. He will play for long periods
of time with his toys and the other dogs. He is very friendly
with everyone but does demand alot of the attention. When I return
home he gives me big hugs!!! I crate him when I am not home but
he does fine left out at night. He will sleep all night as long
as he is cuddled up with someone or something!!! His house training
is going well, he will stand at the door when he needs to go
out but you have to notice him or he will have an accident because
he does not bark to let you know he needs to go outside. Actually
he does not bark very much except when he sees the food bowls
come out he does love to eat!! Riley is so affectionate and sweet
he would love to have someone love him back and give him his
forever home.

Babbs came to OBR as an owner
turn-in and after visiting the vet was found to be in excruciating
pain....who knows how long she suffered?! X-rays
revealed that Babbs has severe arthritis in her spine/hips
so a one-floor house would be ideal for her as stairs would
be extremely difficult. She is currently on Predisone
to reduce the inflammation and relieve the pain in her back
and will most likely need to be on some sort of medication
on and off when her arthritis flares up. A
few vertebrae in her spine have fused together making her
move a bit stiffly. (the fused vertebrae do not
cause her pain). It's hard to believe she's
only 5! Her hard life makes her look and seem
so much older.
Babbs is a fluffy Diva-in-Training
but a real sweetie at heart. She seems starved
for attention and will 'talk' to you if she thinks you're not
giving her enough attention or are moving too slowly in getting
her food ready! She always has such a hopeful look
in her eyes when she comes up to you to be petted. It's
heartbreaking to wonder what her previous life was like.
Babbs would adore your undivided
attention and would prefer being the only dog in the house
but if there are other ones in the house she will insist
on being Queen! She has been very friendly
to everyone she meets and was very well behaved around my 3yr
old niece and 18 mo. old nephew.
Won't you adopt Babbs to be the
Queen in your house?
Update 01/10/08
Babbs is feeling a 100% better
and gets a maintenance pill every 2 or 3 days. She
plays and romps with the other dogs in the house and
will NOT let me take 'the boys' for a walk w/o also
giving her a short, slow walk too. She will not be
left behind!

Updated February 29th Elvis is a fun loving and playful tan & white 2 year old male. He is very sweet and loves to cuddle and give kisses. He gets along very well with other dogs but could be quite happy being the only dog in the home. We have had Elvis for a little over 1 month. In that time he has managed to win the hearts of everyone he meets. He loves to go for car rides and play fetch. He enjoys being outdoors and can keep himself occupied inside or out with a toy or two to play with. Elvis is housebroken and is kept in a crate while we are away to keep his curiosity in check. If you want a buddy to love and play with, Elvis is your dog. As with all of our dogs, Elvis is up-to-date on his vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and on a heart worm preventative. Elvis is being fostered in Michigan. To learn more about Elvis please fill out our adoption application.

Carmen
is a 5 year old tri-color female found as a stray in Delaware
county. In the short time I've known her, it is obvious she's
had a hard life. She has had numerous litters and was literally
skin and bones when she came to her foster home. She's eating
very well and is starting to plump up a bit. She seems to be
a dog that has lived her whole life either outdoors or in a pen,
as the whole concept of being IN a house was just fascinating
to her. She is very timid, and has really bonded with me. She
follows me wherever I go, and if I should leave, she cries and
howls at the door for me. She is afraid of men when she meets
them for the first time. The first time my husband came home
from work and met her, she howled and barked at him, then ran
out through the dog door and barked at him from outside. He had
to go in the garage until I coaxed her inside and onto my lap.
When he came back in, she shook with fear and hid her head in
my arms. He won her over with treats, but she still approaches
him slowly and submissively. When strangers come over, she does
the same thing, shaking and hiding her head in my lap, but she
warms up to females faster. She gets along with our other dogs
and has started to initiate races with our big male basset. She
plays well with our 3 and 6 year old kids, and is a demon with
a tennis ball. She loves chewing on rawhides, but has not chewed
inappropriately even though my kids never pick up their toys.
Carmen sleeps with us, and when I come to bed each night she
snuggles up right next to me and buries her face in my hair for
a few minutes then goes down to the foot of the bed. She knows
HOW to use the dog door, and is starting to figure out WHY she
should use it, but we still have a few pee accidents here and
there. She's a very loving dog with the saddest eyes ever. She
needs a home with loving owners who will be patient with her
as she learns to not fear the world.

Update March 9, 2008 Jolene has settled in and is doing very well. She has learned not to demand people food or whine when people are having a meal. She barks only when she is excited – like when her dinner is being prepared or when she knows she is going into her crate and will be getting a peanut butter stuffed kong. She is comfortable meeting new people and being in new places. She is a good traveler and loves going in the car. She behaves herself in public and clearly loves getting out of the house. When Jolene first joined us, she had trouble holding her urine in her crate while we were away at work. She has improved and now goes all day with no problem unless we get delayed or are gone longer than usual. It was never a housebreaking issue. She lets you know when she needs to go out by prancing around in front of you until you get the message. Jolene will be a good companion for a family, a couple, or single person. She does not make many demands except to get lots of pets and hugs, to sleep with a human, and to be included in outings when possible.

Foster Home Needed |
Update 4/9/08
Simone is a sweet 5 year old female that was found as a stray in Trenton County. When she first came into rescue she was overweight, but is where she should be now. She enjoys playing with her foster brothers, & occasionally her foster sister. She has a very sweet temperament & enjoys going on walks or sitting on the front porch furniture surveying her domain.
She will growl & snip when another dog is near her while she's eating, but shows no sign of food aggression towards people. I can take her food away from her w/ no problem. I just make sure I keep the food bowls far apart. I believe Simone would do well in a home w/ either one other dog or as an only dog even. She's not very fond of being run around by the 5 other dogs here & seems to prefer a quieter existence. Simone is spayed, up to date on shots & microchipped.

Simon
is an 18 month old red and white male released to Franklin County
because his family could no longer care for him.
He is very skinny for an owner relinquish, but he's a happy
guy nonetheless. Simon is gentle and playful with my two young
children (ages 3 and 6) and gets along well with the other bassets.
I would not recommend that Simon go to a house with cats. He
is very afraid of our cats, and tends to howl when he sees one.
We've been working on his behavior in this area, but the cats
seems to cause him stress and would probably not be a good thing
for him long-term. Other than cat howling, he is a quiet dog
who enjoys running and playing with the other bassets.
He has not been destructive here, as there are dogs to occupy
his time, but I could see where he could become destructive,
given his age and energy level, if he were an only dog left alone
for hours on end. I would say that he would make another dog
a great companion, and would not want him to go to a home as
the only dog.
Simon always seems to have a smile on his face, he eats well,
sits for treats and loves to chase balls. He sleeps on a pillow
next to our bed, and we don't have to crate him when we are away,
he has access to the yard through a doggie door. Simon is a happy
go lucky well mannered boy who would make a great companion for

but is bit loud during play.
He is crated when we are gone & @ night. Not
sure that he really "needs" to be crated, but since
he & two of his foster brother get along so well, they
tend to get into a bit of mischief when together, as any good

Merlin
is a 5 yr old black & tan male dumped at the shelter as a
stray. Although, Merlin has long ears, big basset feet, and crooked
legs he is very petite for a purebred basset.
He weighs about 28 lbs and could be mixed with dachshund. Merlin
is a sweet little guy and had no chance of making it out of the
shelter alive. They said he was too skinny, had poor nutrition
and wouldn't be placed on the adoption floor. If we couldn't
take him he would be euthanized that day. Merlin must of known
we were his our only chance, because his sad little eyes continue
to follow with a happy tap tap tap of his tail and big houndie
kiss. Since Merlin has been in our care he's been eating well
and his coat is already starting to show some shine. He enjoys
the company of the other bassets, but wants most just to be with
you.
He is very quiet and rarely makes a peep, other than a soft
whimper when you walk away from him. He is currently staying
in a kennel environment and is still being evaluated. As with
all of our dogs, Merlin is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped,
neutered and on a heart worm preventive. Can you give Merlin

Hi,
my name is Wally, and I am just about the cutest Beagsett you have
ever seen(for those of you that are unaware, that means Beagle/Basset
mix)!!!
I came in to the shelter a skinny boy, but I am starting
to fill out nicely. I passed my assessment tests with flying
colors, so I would do great in any type of home willing to give
me lots of love and exercise. I am still young, so basic obedience
classes would be appreciated and you and I both would reap the
years of benefits. If you are interested in me, please give my
consultant Amber a call at 440-915-8973.
Wally is not in Ohio Basset Rescue and we are doing a courtesy
link to help Berea Animal Rescue find this cutie a forever home.

Updated 04/22/08
Abby is 8 months old and was born with juvenile cataracts. She went to a specialist, but was also diagnosed with a condition of having smaller than normal eyeballs and lenses. Because of this, surgery could not be done. She was taken back 2 months later and the eyes had not grown any further. Several days later she developed glaucoma in one of her eyes and the pressure soared, causing great pain. Sadly, her eye to be removed. The specialist said the other eye is now a time bomb and we are trying to save it with glaucoma meds. If they were to do surgery for the cataracts, it would immediately put the remaining eye into glaucoma so we have to wait a year and a half to two years for that surgery. She has regular pressure checks and so far so good. The glaucoma drops are $75 for a small bottle. Althouh, it has been determined that she can not see anything other than light and dark, it doesn't stop her from being an active puppy and into everything.

Foster Home Needed |
Mike
was adopted from OBR last summer and has now been returned because of financial hardships. Mike is approximately
7 years old and in good health.
He does have cataracts in both
eyes (probably from birth), but they do not interfere with his
sight. Mike is food and toy aggressive and needs to be in a one-dog
home. Mike is super friendly and will lay for a belly rub for as long as you'll let him. He has been shuffled in and out of foster homes and really needs to find a forever home.
He is very affectionate and loyal with
a HUGE bellowing bark. He is up-to-date on his vaccinations, on
a heartworm preventative, neutered and microchipped. To learn more
about Mike please fill out our adoption application.

Update 05/03/08
Nashville (aka Nash) - Nash is a 7 year old male rescued from a shelter in Washington County. Nash is a wonderful boy who loves to romp and play with his humans. Grab a football, a rope toy, or just get on the floor to wrestle and he is right there ready and waiting. Nash would be perfect for an active family, especially if they had teenage boys! He also loves to give kisses, snuggle close, and sit in any available lap. If allowed, he also loves to sleep on the bed with someone.
Nash does fine with other dogs and has had no problems with the cats. He has now been neutered, is up-to-date on his shots, and is heartworm negative.
If your looking for a happy-go-lucky playful hound who knows his manners, Nash is the boy for you!

Update 0503/08
Abbi is a beautiful senior girl approximately 8 years old who was pulled from a shelter in Athens County. Abbi has adjusted well to her foster home. She is now trained to the
doggy door and has very few accidents. Her kennel cough has cleared and
she is up-to-date on all her shots. Abbi needs a special home where she
can feel safe and secure. The home should be somewhat calm and quiet
with no small children. She takes a little time to trust and her
reactions are sometimes unpredictable. She is also extremely afraid of
thunderstorms. Given the right home, Abbi will be a loving and faithful
companion.

Barney became Quincy when he came to our home and our Bernie kept coming to the name of Barney. Quincy feels so much better now that he has had a bath. The scares on his face, and ears are a clue to his previous life. He has a lot of energy, which makes us think he is younger than 9yo. Though he is terribly underweight, Quincy has a good appetite and will be a gorgeous boy when he fills out.His first few meals were inhaled! The treatment for kennel cough and ear infections is almost over, and he will be re-evaluated at the vet's next week. Quincy seems al ittle nervous in the house, and has paced al ot these past few days. Hopefully, Quincy will start to relax enough that he can sleep without one ear open, and without the worry of what will happen if he lets his guard down. We have not seen any food aggression, nor any attitude with our other dog, or the cats. Children remain a mystery at this time. Quincy loves a good belly rub and a chew bone, but is not keen on toys. Quincy was neutered in early April, and is up to date on all vaccinations. We will know more in a week's time.

LuLu is a victim of the puppy mill industry in Southeast Ohio. At 5 years old, she is a gorgeous red & white beauty who is now free to live her life as someone's beloved companion! Although wary of most humans initially ( likely due to the years of neglect & abuse) she still seems to prefer human companionship over other canines, and lives harmoniously with both in her foster home. She is housebroken & does fine in the crate, but can be trusted to roam when we are not home. She is quiet & small for a basset, and could be considered as a pet for apartment or condominium dwellers. She will not do well around active children or other hyper animals, and we prefer a family who will not leave her alone for long periods of time. She needs "dry eye" medication, which could cost about $30 per month, but she is worth it! LuLu will require lots of time & attention from her new family to become the basset she was born to be! Show the puppy mills that you will not support their cause, and apply to adopt LuLu from OBR today!!

Misty is a 1 and 1/2 yr old female relinquished to OBR by her family. They kept her locked in a room because they didn't have time to spend with her. She's a really pretty girl. She's beginning to calm down, but still follows me everywhere. She's housetrained, but think that's about all the attention she ever got. I'm feeding her 2X/day, small meals, because she's soooo thin & acts like she was starving. She nips @ me gently sometimes, when I push her down (she jumps up alot, especially when I'm eating) She is eager to please, so I think she'll come around. It's clear that they just locked her up & left her for long periods of time & she didn't get any attention. She's already doing better, so think she will make a great companion for someone. She's sleeping w/my youngest son (21 yrs.) @ night, & she loves to play fetch w/balls & toys. Still very much a puppy. She's a talker/howler, but is adjusting to the routine around here pretty quickly. Loves my yard & playing with my 4 dogs.

Hi, my name is Flash and I am a nine year old tri-color, neutered male Basset Hound. My family is no longer able to take care of me so I am looking for a new home. I currently live with another male basset, Ben, who is also looking for a home. We do not have to be placed together. I am up to date on shots and Frontline but have not been on Heartgard year round so should have a heartworm test and get started on maintenance soon. I am cheerful and low energy but I can be territorial about food and my bed. I am excellent with children and am currently living with an 8 year old girl. I am also good with other dogs and with cats. Can you find a place for me in your home? I promise I will not be too much trouble and will reward you with lots of basset gratitude. Please contact Cathy with OBR to get more info about me.

My name is Ben and I am a six year old lemon and white neutered male. My owner can no longer keep us so OBR is trying to find a new home for me and my brother Flash. We do not have to be placed together. I am up to date on shots and Frontline but have not been on Heartgard year round so will need a current heartworm test and to be put back on maintenance. I was purchased from a pet store at Northgate Mall and my owner thinks I was probably born in a puppymill. I am blind and have a congenital shoulder defect. I have adapted well to my lack of sight and can walk on a leash if attached to another basset. I am cheerful and low energy and am looking for a new family to help take care of me. If you don't mind having a middle aged guy around that needs a little bit of help please call Cathy wih OBR to find out all about me.

Greta came in as a very sick girl. She had no fur on her legs, thighs, ear tips and other parts of her body. It was diagnosed as a severe yeast infection. Her ears were infected. Her teeth were abscessed and her eyes were infected. The infection had spread to her sinuses. She had 13 teeth removed. Her ears are cleared up and she has about 1/4 inch of fur growing on her legs. She has a luxating patella on one of her knees. She is about 8 years old. She loves kids and is very sweet. Greta just loves to be near you. We are still working on some health issues due to her extreme neglect.
